Tanzania Exports

Trade and Investments in Tanzania

Approximately 80 percent of Tanzania’s exports are agricultural products, including coffee, cotton, sisal, tea, cashew nuts, tobacco, pyrethrum, and cloves.

Traditional crops for local consumption and domestic sales include maize, rice (paddy), sorghum, wheat, beans, cassava, potatoes, and sugarcane. Products with smaller markets and potential for value-added processing include groundnuts, cowpeas, wine grapes, sunflowers, castor seeds, spices like cardamom, sesame seeds, palm oil seeds, copra, cut flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Other notable exports include semi-manufactured goods, gold, semi-processed gemstones, and clothing.

Horticultural Products
We have has highlighted products with strong export potential for the Nordic and Baltic markets, such as:

Non-Perishable Products
Exotic fruit juices/concentrates, sun-dried fruits, and mangoes in syrup, which could perform well in Nordic countries due to less stringent health regulations for processed foods.

Floriculture Products Apparel and Textiles
Small and medium-sized textile exporters can find market opportunities in the Nordic and Baltic regions. Tanzania’s textile and clothing sector is poised to become a significant hub for international buyers. The Textile Development Unit (TDU) promotes Tanzania as “the best overall location for making apparel in Africa” (visit TDU).

Tanzania also provides a reliable supply of locally-grown, handpicked cotton, appealing to textile and apparel brands, buyers, and manufacturers.

Building partnerships with established importers in the Nordic and Baltic regions is recommended for successful market entry. Potential investors or partners may consider involvement in production and processing to strengthen their presence in these markets.
